From Pehlwan Goth to Nishtar Park

Thousands walked side by side in the Muharram 9 Pehalwan Goth procession.

KARACHI: Thousands walked side by side in the Muharram 9 Pehalwan Goth procession, that started from the Imambargah Dar-e-Abbas at 3 pm and reached the Central Imambargah Hussainia Pehalwan Goth at 5:30 pm.

People belonging to every ethnicity in the city participated in the procession and listened to the address of Allama Lal Hussain on the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (RA).

Rehmat Ali, who was part of the main procession that started from Nishter Park, said he hails from Hangu and takes part in the Ashura mourning processions every year for the last 35 years.

The Qasba Colony procession is the second largest to march in the city on Muharram 9.

Haji Ghulam Haidar, 68, is the leader of Anjuman Hussainia, a Pakhtun organisation. Haider said that they will move to Nishtar Park from their respective imambargahs to join the main procession today and every group will hold a banner representing their residential area.

“Hussainia Scouts is a troop of Pakhtun scouts who provide security to the processions,” said Ali Ahmar, additional information secretary of Jaffria Alliance Karachi. He added that they are first among the mourners who perform Zanjeerzani and other mourning.
