LAHORE:

Overseas Pakistanis Commission (OPC) Punjab Commissioner Afzaal Bhatti on Wednesday received cheques for Rs5.2 million and handed those over to a Pakistani citizen based in the United States.

Muhammad Asif had paid the amount to a private housing society in 2009 to buy two houses in one of its schemes. In a complaint registered with the OPC Punjab, Asif had contended that the possession of the houses was never transferred in his name. The complaint said that in 2013 Asif approached the society’s administration to return the amount. It added that the administration had agreed to return the amount but kept delaying the payment for two years. Speaking to the media, the OPC-Punjab commissioner said that on receipt of the complaint he had himself gone to the housing society administrators and requested them to return the amount paid for the houses. He said after a few rounds of talks he managed to get the amount back.
