RAWALPINDI: A Customs official, in charge of the Customs warehouse, was gunned down during an attempted “robbery” on Wednesday. Inspector Chaudhry Ijaz was at his residence in Qasimabad at the time of the incident. “He was preparing for prayers when two robbers fired a warning shot before entering the house,” said the official’s son Noman Ijaz. “My father was near the gate when the robbers opened fire on him.” Area residents said two motorcyclists had been waiting outside the house and fled the scene after the murder. A Customs official has ruled out that the murder had any connection with Ayyan’s case. “He was only in charge of the warehouse where we keep all the confiscated goods.”
