ISLAMABAD:

Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) would soon introduce a biometric authentication system to ensure transparency.

The decision has been taken to ensure attendance of students in workshops, considering their importance for academic pursuits in the distance learning system. Initially the biometrics system will be applicable at workshops of different levels from next semester and will be gradually made compulsory in examination halls. AIOU Vice-Chancellor Dr Shahid Siddiqui has issued instructions to relevant departments in this regard.

He took serious notice of complaints regarding fake attendance in workshops and said such practices will not be allowed in the future and there will be no compromise on wrongdoings. AIOU is also consulting with NADRA for the full particulars of students required for proper running of the biometric system.
