LAHORE: The provincial government has withdrawn its request for a judicial commission to probe the Daska incident.

On Monday, the government had requested Lahore High Court Chief Justice Manzoor Ahmed Malik to nominate a judicial commission to conduct an inquiry of the incident under Section 3 and 5(5) of the Punjab Tribunals of Enquiry Ordinance, 1969.

A case regarding the incident was registered at the Daska City police station under Section 302, 324 and 148 of the Pakistan Penal Code (murder, premeditated murder, rioting) and Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act.

After the FIR was registered, the Home Department constituted a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) comprising representatives of law enforcement and security agencies.

A statement issued by the LHC’s media officer said the government had withdrawn its request for a judicial commission to look into the Daska incident in which two lawyers, including the president of the Tehsil Bar Association of Daska were killed.

On Monday, the Pakistan Bar Council opposed the constitution of a judicial commission.

Funeral prayers

Members of the Lahore High Court Bar Association and judges of the Lahore High Court on Tuesday offered prayers for the lawyers who died in Daska.

CJ Manzoor Malik, Justice Sardar Tariq Masood, Justice Ijazul Ahsan, Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, Justice Muhammad Khalid Mahmood and several lawyers joined the prayers.

Justice Malik and two judges visited Mayo Hospital to inquire after the health of Advocate Jahanzeb Sahi who was injured in the Daska incident allegedly by Daska City Police SHO.

Addressing lawyers, Malik said the law would take its course.

He said those who had attacked the lawyers would be brought to the book and justice would be served.

Naeem Khan | 8 years ago | Reply Another JIT was in the offing by Shahbaz Sharif till the lawyers nixed it, is there any limit to this joke. JIT in Punjab has absolutely no credibility as long as Shabaz is there to micro-managed every detail of the Province. What is it with the people , do they really think the judiciary has come from Mars, they are the product of the same society, I am sure Pakistanis has tasted the the workings of the judiciary.
