Five security personnel injured in Bajaur Agency blast

The security personnel were attempting to defuse an IED before it exploded

At least five security personnel were seriously injured in a blast that occurred while they attempted to defuse an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in the troubled Bajaur Agency.

The personnel were defusing the explosives in the Babara Chaharmang area of Nawagai sub division, some 20 kilometers west of the agency’s headquarters Khar on Tuesday.

Following the blast, security forces cordoned off the area and began a search operation, which is still on going.

Elaborating more on the incident, an official of the political administration in the area said the personnel had received information of the IED’s presence, which, upon attempts to defuse, exploded.

He further said that a member of Bomb Disposal Unit (BDU), Naib Subedar Mujeeb, was among those injured in the blast. Four of the injured victims were airlifted to Peshawar and are said to be in critical condition, while another was shifted to a hospital in Khar.

On May 12, at least five people, including tribal elder Malik Muhammad Jan from Mamond tehsil, were killed in an IED attack in Bar Kamar Sar, Khar.

On May 1, peace committee leader Khalid Khan was killed in the same Nawagai subdivision of the agency.

Terror attempt foiled

Meanwhile, security forces thwarted an attempt to cause massive destruction as they found and defused 37kg of explosives hidden in the fields in Manoska area of Shabqadar, Charsadda.
