PESHAWAR: The counter-terrorism department arrested a man who allegedly fled during the 2012 Bannu jailbreak from Tehkal Bala in the provincial capital on Saturday. According to insiders, the inmate was arrested during a raid conducted in the area. He has been identified as Shazal and is a resident of Tall, Hangu. Shazal had been sentenced to life imprisonment and sent to Bannu Central Jail. On May 9, another inmate who had escaped during the jailbreak was arrested from Islamabad. He was identified as Raheem Gul and had been held at the prison in a narcotics case. In April 2012, hundreds of heavily armed militants in several vehicles attacked the Bannu Central Jail and released at least 400 inmates. Although some prisoners returned and others were arrested, many are still at large.
