Cry for help?: Man attempts suicide inside lockup

Tayyab was already detained by the police in a brawl case

RAWALPINDI: A young man who was arrested by the Taxila police in a case of a brawl allegedly injured himself after ramming his head into the iron bars at the police lock up, said a police official. The police have registered a case against Malik Muhammad Tayyab under Section 325 (attempted suicide) of the Pakistan Penal Code PPC. According to the police, Tayyab was already detained by the police in a brawl case however on Thursday morning he tried to kill himself in the lockup. After the incident, the suspect was shifted to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital for medical treatment. Raja Iftikhar, in-charge of the Taxila police checkpoint said Tayyab was arrested by the police in a brawl case however, he tried to kill himself. He said police are trying to find the reason behind the attempted suicide. Later, police officials produced Tayyab before a court where he was sent on judicial remand for two weeks.
