DERA GHAZI KHAN: Police say that a security guard, who had been killed at a school in Dera Ghazi Khan on Monday, had been accidently shot by a student. Ghulam Abbas had been shot dead at the main entrance of the Sarwarwali School. A single bullet had pierced his skull, killing him on the spot. Darahma police later obtained footage of the surveillance cameras installed at the school. “It is clear from the footage that a student of grade 10 had accidently fired Abbas’ rifle, while he was talking to someone at the gate,” Darahma SHO Rana Muhammad Iqbal told The Express Tribune. “In the surveillance camera footage, Abbas is seen leaving his post to answer a knock at the school’s gate. He then leaves his rifle leaning against his chair. It was break time at the school. A group of students then approaches the spot. One of them starts examining the rifle. He picks it up and levels it and fires the shot. Abbas, who is still at the gate, is seen falling down. The students flee,” the SHO said. “After identifying them from the footage, a police team questioned the four students at the school on Tuesday. One of them admitted that he had accidently fired the rifle,” he said. Iqbal said that the student had not been taken into custody. He said that a report about the incident would be sent to Dera Ghazi Khan District Police Officer Ghulam Mubashir Maken within 24 hours.
