Judicial commission to hear from PTI's witnesses on May 6

Witnesses include NADRA Chairman, Najam Sethi, Hamid Mir, Nabil Gabol, former Punjab caretaker government officials

The special judicial commission, formed to probe allegations of rigging in the May 2013 general elections, on Saturday issued summons to witnesses whose names had been submitted by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), to appear before it on May 6.

PTI had submitted a list of its witnesses on April 22. The commission on Saturday told witnesses to appear before the court at 1pm on May 6 to record their statements.

The witnesses to whom summons have been issued include Punjab caretaker chief minister Najam Sethi, Punjab caretaker chief secretary Javed Iqbal, Punjab caretaker additional chief secretary Rao Iftikhar, the managing directors (MDs) of the presses of the Printing Corporation of Pakistan (PCP) in Karachi and Lahore at the time of the 2013 elections, National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) chairman Usman Yousaf Mobeen, former MNA Nabeel Gabol, senior journalist Hamid Mir.

Muddassir Rizvi, head of programme TDEA-FAFEN, Free and Fair Election Network has also asked to appear before the commission. Rizvi is expected to submit around 41,000 pieces of evidence of electoral violations and irregularities in the general elections 2013.

The judicial commission had ruled on April 29 that the PTI will present their witnesses on May 5, while the witnesses requested that the hearing be pushed to May 6.
