Official results: MQM secures NA-246 with 95,644 votes

Declaring Muttahida Qaumi Movement candidate Kanwar Naveed as the winner of the NA-246 by-elections, returning officer Nadeem Haider announced the official poll results on Friday.


According to Haider, Naveed won the polls by a margin of 70,823 votes after getting a total of 95,644 votes. Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Imran Ismail and Jamaat-e-Islami’s Rashid Nasim bagged 24,821 and 9,056 votes, respectively.


The results, announced in the wee hours of Friday morning, said that a total of 131,424 votes were polled out of 357,801 votes registered in the constituency — a turn-out of 36.7 per cent. The number of corrected votes stood at 130,295 as 1,129 votes were rejected.


The returning officer said that Pasban-e-Pakistan’s Usman Moazzam received 93 votes. Meanwhile, from the independent candidates, Aslam Shah secured 78 votes, Ayoub Sultan had 67, Hassan Pervez 209 and Syed Azharul Hussain 64.
