KARACHI:

The police submitted on Wednesday a supplementary challan to an anti-terrorism court in the murder case of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader, Zahra Shahid Hussain.

Hussain, a senior leader of the party’s Sindh chapter, was shot dead outside her residence in DHA on May 17, 2013, hours before re-elections in the NA-250 constituency. The murder sparked a wave of tension as the PTI accused the Muttahida Qaumi Movement of manipulating the murder.

The supplementary challan was submitted to the ATC-VIII to implicate the recently arrested third suspect, Kaleem, an MQM worker, into the case. Boat Basin police, investigating the case, had taken his custody from the Pakistan Rangers in mid-March after some media channels aired news of his involvement in the case.

The challan stated that Kaleem was involved in planning the murder and had abetted the assailants in carrying out the crime. According to the investigation officer of the case, Kaleem had also revealed that the culprits hid their weapons in a unit office of the MQM.

Two other suspects, Rashid and Zahid Abbas Zaidi, are currently in jail custody, while four absconding suspects, Junaid Bukhari, Tariq Nawaz, Asif alias Ganja and Irfan alias Lamba, have been declared proclaimed offenders.

The court has fixed the next hearing of the case on May 5.
