ISLAMABAD:

A 70-year-old man reportedly killed his daughter before committing suicide on Thursday morning in the jurisdiction of the Margalla Police Station.

Muhammad Iqbal, a local shopkeeper, shot and killed his 17-year-old daughter, Alina Iqbal before committing suicide, investigation officer Abdur Razak said.

The incident took place in a congested market in Sector G-8/4.

According to the police, the incident took place at 9:30am. Iqbal shot the teenager in the chest before shooting himself in the head. The bodies were handed over to the family after post-mortem.

We will investigate the case from every angle, the investigation officer said.

He said that after the funeral, the police would record the statements of people from the neighbourhood. The police have registered a report on the complaint of Muhammad Ali Iqbal, son of the deceased.

Margalla SHO Chaudhry Bashir said that the police needed time to investigate.

Meanwhile, friends and neighbours of the deceased told The Express Tribune that they knew the 70-year-old for years and never thought of him as having a violent streak.

They said Iqbal was financially sound and had never mentioned any personal problems. They would not confirm or deny a family dispute.

DSP City Muhammad Ashraf said that initial investigation did not reveal any concrete reason behind the man taking such an extreme action.

“After two to three days, we will have some solid information,” he remarked.
