Targeted attack: Party leader shot dead

They were taken to Civil Hospital, Karachi, where both of them succumbed to injuries.

The Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat’s general secretary for Karachi, Dr Fayyaz, and his driver were shot dead near Paracha Chowk in Sher Shah within the limits of SITE B-Section police station on Wednesday evening.


Dr Fayyaz and his driver, Arif, were in his Toyota Corolla when motorcyclists opened fire at them. DSP Majeed Abbas said that both men were shot multiple times. They were taken to Civil Hospital, Karachi, where both of them succumbed to injuries. The officer said that one of the two attackers was wearing a helmet, adding that the police have collected at least four empty 9mm shells from the crime scene.

This is the third party leader to have been killed since the beginning of the year since the government withdrew security from the ASWJ leaders following a civil society protest in February.

ASWJ’s Korangi president, Maulana Shabbir Hyderi and Maulana Yasir, the party’s president in Safoora Chowrangi, were shot dead last month. The police have yet to register a case.
