ISLAMABAD:

Suspected terrorists have threatened to bomb Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) and a welfare organisation, police sources revealed on Thursday.

An AIOU security officer went to the police to report that an unidentified man called him and threatened to bomb the university.

Following the threat, police officials including the bomb disposal squad searched the university and declared it clear. A case was registered at the Industrial Area Police Station. Separately, suspected terrorists sent a letter to Sultana Foundation, a welfare organization, saying that “after the Peshawar attack it was now their turn”.

While confirming the threat, the police said that security of the organisation has been increased after the warning. A case has been registered with the Shahzad Town Police Station.

An official of the foundation said he was not aware of the threat, but security has been beefed up and boundary walls were also being raised.

The persons behind the hoax call and the letter have yet to be identified, the police said.
