ISLAMABAD: At least 8,800 suspected terrorists were arrested in the country as the law-enforcement agencies conducted operations to ensure effective implementation on the National Action Plan (NAP) against terrorism, Express News reported on Saturday.

Around 12,000 operations were carried out in the country to end the scourge of terrorism.

A number of 1859 militants were rounded up in Punjab, 1178 in Sindh, 4949 in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, 263 in Balochistan, 455 in Islamabad 455, 10 in Gilgit-Baltistan and 118 in FATA.

Just a day ago, Home Minister Shuja Khanzada confirmed that 9,233 illicit weapons were also seized during a general hold-up over 10 days, and added 365 cases were registered over display of arms.

The minister chaired a meeting to review progress on the NAP against terrorism. Several police officers and heads of agencies were also present.
