KARACHI: Bahria Town chief Malik Riaz said on Sunday if the system works properly Pakistan can come at par with Dubai, even Europe, in terms of progress, a Bahria Town statement said.

Addressing a press conference in London, he said Bahria Town Karachi generated 45,000 employments. “We can create 2.1 million jobs if provided government support,” he said, announcing that the foundation stone of Altaf Hussain University will be laid in Hyderabad on Friday.

Malik Riaz had announced to build a university for the residents of Hyderabad and name it after the MQM chief. Riaz said that development work on Altaf Hussain University would commence on Friday.

He said his organisation would also launch a medical college in Karachi.

Malik Riaz also announced the launch of Bahria Town Golf City Overseas Pakistanis Block on the insistence of expatriates present on the occasion.

He said that Pakistan was faced with problems of governance. Given the control of Lahore Development Authority (LDA), the real estate tycoon said he could manage the budget of the whole of Punjab province.

He vowed to provide free houses to 3,000 homeless people in Karachi. However, he added that no new housing project would begin till the completion of on-going Bahria Town project in the port city.

Riaz expressed his desire for building tourist resorts in Gilgit and Skardu. He said Pakistan could become at par with any developed country within two years, but wrong policies were the main hurdle in the progress of the country.

"Pakistan can come at par with Dubai in two years," says Malik Riaz. What he forgot to add is - only if Dubai follows in Pakistan's footsteps.
