JHELUM:

A new block is being constructed at a high school in Chakri Rajgan in Jhelum District in memory of one of the victims of the Army Public School attack in Peshawar.

The foundation stone of the “Mehar Ali Shaheed Block” at the Government High School for Boys, Chakri Rajgan was laid by Jhleum District Coordination Officer Zulfiqar Ahmed Ghumman and GOC Maj-Gen Sher Afgan. Ali was killed in the December 16 attack in Peshawar and the block has been named after him.

The garrison commander donated Rs100,000 for the construction of the block, which will cost a total of Rs5 million to be built.

Ali’s father Naib Subedar Kausar Ijaz had appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif at the funeral of his son to build a new block at the school in his loved one’s memory.

Speaking at the occasion, Ghumman said terrorism and extremism could only be eliminated by spreading the light of education. He added that the Peshawar tragedy united the whole nation and now every institution of the state was fighting terrorism with the support of the general public.

Afgan said the whole nation was united to eliminate terrorism and the new block was the best way to pay homage to Ali, who embraced martyrdom along with over hundred others.
