Blanketed: 11 people killed as fog thickens over weekend

MULTAN: As many as 11 people were killed in road accidents blamed on reduced visibility due to fog on Saturday-Sunday.

A Rescue 1122 spokesman said a man had died after he was hit by a wagon near Basti Malook. They said two students had died on the National Highway near Mohsinwaal, Mian Channu when their motorbike was hit by a bus.

They said two people were killed and 21 others were injured on the National Highway near Rahim Yar Khan when two buses collided with a truck.



In Abbasnagar, Lodhran, a police wagon collided with a car. Rescue 1122 officials said eight people, including four policemen, were injured. They said the accident had occurred due to dense fog on Islampura Road.

Rescue 1122 officials said three people were killed when a wagon and a motorbike collided in Pakpattan. They said two college students from Sahiwal died early on Saturday morning; one student had died near Fort Abbas when he was hit by a tractor. The other was killed when his motorbike collided with a car. Three people were also injured in the incident.

A spokesman of the Met Department said fog was forecast for four more days.

He said the lowest temperature recorded in Multan was 4.5 degrees Celsius.

He said there was no chance of rain for 10 days in south Punjab.
