KARACHI: When problems loom large in our faces, we must stay strong and avoid creating panic, said Karachi Commissioner Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui on Sunday.

He was speaking as the chief guest at the closing ceremony of the three-day Annual Youth and Volunteer Training Camp organised by the Pakistan Red Crescent Society’s (PRCS) Sindh branch at Gulistan Scout Campsite.

“Attending this ceremony, I feel that Karachi is a resilient city,” he said. “I would like to congratulate the parents of these children who sent their children to attend this camp despite the Peshawar tragedy.”

A group of students presented a demonstration, which showed a blast situation and how to react in such circumstances. Addressing the children, the commissioner said that the awareness of how to react in any emergency situation is a gift that they now possess.

Speaking on the occasion, PRCS Sindh secretary Kanwar Waseem appreciated the parents who sent their children to attend the programme for awareness. “In any emergency situation, an untrained person always panics,” he said. “However, a trained person always reacts to the situation.”

Waseem said that the PRCS is running such programmes all over Sindh for the development of youth. They train children on how to react in any emergency situation. “Our trained volunteers also served during the 2008 earthquake.”

The event ended with the commissioner presenting certificates to the children who participated.
