KARACHI:

The polio virus paralysed 52 children in Sindh and 291 children across the country in 2014, according to the report issued by the Sindh health department.

Around 23 cases were reported in Karachi while 29 cases surfaced across Sindh. The report further said that over 2,000 people were affected by the dengue virus across the province and claimed around two dozen lives.

Cases of malaria and dengue were on the rise this year as an effective spray drive could not be carried out due to the health department’s negligence. This year in April, the government launched the Dengue Prevention and Control Programme. However, it failed due to inefficiency on part of the health department.

According to unofficial data, 20 cases of Congo virus surfaced in Karachi. Of these, most were reported from Korangi. At least six people died from the virus. Similarly, 14 cases of naegleria fowleri were reported, of which 13 could not survive.
