NAUNDERO:

Members of civil society held three protests at different sites in the city on Monday.

The first demonstration was organised by contractors against the Sindh Irrigation Development Authority director Anwar Ali Siyal and irrigation executive engineer Abid Naich. The protesters said that the budget sanctioned for repairs of embankments and canals had been used to give contracts to those close to both officers, but the work had not been carried out. In another protest organised by physically handicapped persons, protesters demanded a two per cent job quota, inclusion of disabled persons’ names in the Benazir Income Support Programme, compensation from Baitul Mal and Zakat and Ushr for dowry at the time of marriage.

In Naundero, the Primary Teachers Association candidates from Ratodero taluka lashed out at the taluka education officer for withholding the salaries of over 180 teachers over allegations of being ghost teachers.
