Busted: 26 members of two robbers’ gangs arrested

Police say the suspects have been involved in 125 street crimes.

LAHORE: The Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) arrested 26 members of two robbers’ gangs on Sunday. Police said the suspects were involved in 125 street crimes.

Police seized Rs2 million cash, three cars, 26 motorbikes, 41 mobile phones, several laptops and illegal weapons from them.

“During interrogation, the suspects have confessed to being involved in 125 robberies, in the jurisdiction of several police stations in Lahore, Kasur and Sahiwal districts,” a CIA officer told The Express Tribune.



“A woman, Sabiran, has also been taken into custody. She used to enter homes on various pretexts and then call her accomplices on the phone. They would then enter the house and hold up the residents and collect valuables,” the officer said.

“Taking note of the rising incidents of street crime, CCPO Captain (retd) Muhammad Amin Wains had earlier directed CIA SP Umar Virk to arrest the robbers,” the officer said.

He said that the CIA team had conducted several raids in various areas of the city and arrested members of the Waheed Jutt gang and Zohaib alias Zobi gang. Their names are: Muhammad Khalid, Aftab Ahmed, Hafiz Adnan, Manzoor Hussain, Khadim Hussain, Muhammad Qasim, Muhammad Arshad, Sabiran, Muhammad Afzal, Abid, Imran Ali, Rab Nawaz, Muhammad Abbas Dawood Shah, Abdul Haq Majid Alias Babu, Ramazan Tariq Mehmood, Ali Raza, Muhammad Nadeem Asif, Rashid Ali, Faisal and Shahzad Ali.

“The suspects have admitted to having carried out robberies in Defence, Misri Shah, Millat Park, Gulshan-i-Ravi, Garden Town, Gulberg, Iqbal Town, South Cantt, Masti Gate, Kot Lakhpat, Nawab Town, Nishtar Colony, Sattukatla, Race Course, Nasirabad, Johar Town, North Cantonment, Raiwind City, Lorry Adda, Islampura, Kasur and Sahiwal,” he said.

The officer said that some of the suspects had previously served time at Kasur Jail.

Investigation DIG Shahzad Sultan praised the CIA team and announced certificates and cash prizes for them.
