Contempt of court: IG, Rangers commander get warrants from court

The officials had failed to show up in land possession case despite orders

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) issued on Thursday non-bailable warrants for the Sindh IG, Bhittai Rangers commander, District East DIG, Malir SSP and Sachal police station officers for not appearing before the court despite notices of contempt.

The plaintiffs, AM Qureshi and others, had filed a contempt application against the Bhittai Rangers commander Khalid Goraya, Major Syed Ehsan Ali Shah, Sindh IG Ghulam Hyder Jamali, District East DIG Munir Sheikh, Malir SSP Rao Anwar, Sachal SHO and others for interfering in the possession of the plaintiff’s 25 acres of land in Malir.

The plaintiff’s counsel, Mureed Ali Shah, had submitted that the alleged contemnors were interfering in the possession of the land allotted by the government in the 1960s.

He submitted that the alleged contemnors were constantly defying court orders by encroaching the plaintiff’s land and raising illegal structures on it.

On December 9, the court had directed all alleged contemnors to appear before the court on the next date of hearing, failing which non-bailable warrants would be issued against them.

When the matter was taken up before the SHC on Thursday, none of the alleged contemnors, except Major Syed Ehsan Ali Shah, appeared. Taking serious notice of their attitude, the court issued non-bailable warrants against the alleged contemnors.
