LAHORE:

Lahore High Court on Thursday maintained status quo over a 10,000 acres land belonging to the Forest Department in Rajanpur. The land has been allegedly occupied by Sardar Sher Ali Gorchani, deputy speaker of Punjab Assembly.

Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah gave the order on a petition filed by Sardar Ali Raza, a provincial lawmaker from the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf. The court also sought a detailed reply from the Revenue Department. The counsel for the petitioner said that the deputy speaker had illegally occupied around 10,000 acres of forest land in connivance with some officials of the Revenue Department. He said that Gorchani’s men had cut down trees and begun cultivating crops on the land. The counsel said the government should take back the land. The judge sought a reply in two weeks and restrained the deputy speaker from using the land.
