Supreme Court Justice Gulzar Ahmed has emphasised strengthening and safeguarding of the institution of family.

He was speaking at the concluding ceremony of a one-week training session on “Family Laws and Modern Legislation” for family court judges at the Federal Judicial Academy (FJA) on Saturday, said a press release.

“Families are the cells which make up the body of society. If these cells are broken, the entire society will suffer,” he said, adding that children suffer the most in case of family break-ups.

“I believe that the family court judges have the responsibility to save this fundamental institution from break-up. They must deal with these sensitive cases with humanistic sense and law.”

Commenting on the environmental laws, he said that these were very important laws. “Pollution is alarmingly on the rise due to our environment-unfriendly actions and lifestyle. Judiciary can play a key role to address these environmental problems. It is everybody’s fundamental right to live in a clean environment, but all of us also have a responsibility to protect environment,” he said.

The training also covered administrative and financial management and alternate dispute resolution issues.

A total of 24 senior civil judges from all the four provinces, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan attended the course.

FJA Director-General Dr Faqir Hussain highlighted the importance of trainings for judges and court staff, saying the academy frequently holds training courses for judges.

The Justice also distributed certificates among the course participants at the end of the session.
