Trades and skills: Free solar technology training course starts

4,000 people would be trained under the Tevta Reform Support Programme by GIZ

Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) chairperson Irfan Qaiser Sheikh said on Thursday that the authority had launched a one-month free solar training course at the Government Staff Training College in Gulberg.


Sheikh was addressing a meeting convened to review progress on the solar technology training programme. He said 4,000 people would be trained under the Tevta Reform Support Programme by the German Federal Enterprise for International Cooperation (GIZ). Sheikh said 122 people had been trained in five-batches under the programme to date.

He said the entire duration of the programme was 30 months. Sheikh said those participating in the programme would be provided with accommodation, a free tool kit and paid a Rs3,000 stipend. He said 68 Tevta instructors from 34 institutions of the authority would also be trained as master trainers under the programme. Sheikh said 48 instructors had already finished their training. He said the initiative had been taken to promote use of solar technology among entrepreneurs.

Sheikh said the initiative would publicise the authority’s work regarding the promotion of state-of-the-art technological skills among the people of the Punjab. He said the initiative had been taken in accordance with a directive from the government to meet the increasing demand for energy in the province.
