SHABQADAR: Two policemen were killed in a grenade attack at the main Shabqadar bazaar, Bacha Khan chowk on Tuesday evening.

Police official Shabqadar Gul Shed Khan said that as a police van, travelling from Michni Road to Bacha Khan Chowk, reached the roundabout, unidentified motorcyclists hurled a hand grenade at it.

The grenade landed inside the van before exploding. The explosion set the van on fire and severely injured Ibrahim, and Head Constable Shaheen Islam.

The two officials were rushed to the Shabqadar Hospital where Shaheen succumbed to his wounds. Ibrahim was shifted to Peshawar, where he too succumbed to his injuries.

Following the incident, police cordoned off the area, and a search operation for the assailants was launched.

Following the attack, the Tehreek-e-Taliban Jamaatul Ahrar group in a statement claimed responsibility for the attack.

Shabqadar, which shares a border with the Mohmand Agency, is considered to be one of the most sensitive areas of Charsadda, where police and other law enforcement official have been frequently targeted by militants.
