KARACHI:

The election of the legal fraternity's highest regulatory body in the province, the Sindh Bar Council (SBC), was held for the session 2015-2019 on Saturday amid serious complaints of mismanagement.

The polling was held on the premises of the Sindh High Court (SHC) with tight security measures, with advocate general Abdul Fatah Malik performing duties as the presiding officer. Media personnel were not allowed to enter the SHC premises to cover the polls.

Around 630 eligible members of the council exercised their right to elect the 33-member body of the SBC from 141 candidates. Fourteen members of the council are elected on the seats from Karachi. Unofficial reports suggested that only 380 votes were found valid. Lawyers, including Muhammad Yasin Azad and Munir A Malik, expressed serious concerns about the arrangements made for the polling, the revision of the voters' list mere hours before voting and the non-implementation of the code of conduct.

Apparently Britain declared war on Germany in 1914, and the poor Germans have been getting the blame ever since.
