Friendships are fake in Bollywood: Mohit Chauhan

Silk Route frontman still holds onto friends from his school and college days

NEW DELHI: Over the years there have been quite a few stories about friendships blossoming or relationship turning sour in Bollywood but singer Mohit Chauhan, who has dedicated his new song Aisee Waisee Dosti Nahin to friendship, feels such bonding is “not the real deal” in show business.

The Filmfare Award-winning playback singer was of the opinion that, “friendship formed in the glamour industry comes with mutual benefits, which is nice, but it is not the real deal.”

He further said that, “It is a kind of professional friendship to a certain extent.”



So what’s the dealmaker for the talented playback singer?

“The real deal is when you are friends with someone since ninth standard or college days. A person who has been with you through your struggle and stayed with you through thick and thin,” said the 48-year-old singer who was the former front-man of the Indian pop band Silk Route, which shot to fame after the release of their song Dooba Dooba in 1990’s.

The Masakali singer feels lucky that he is still in touch with close friends from his school and college going days.

He also recalled how many of his friends drove down to meet him when he visited Kullu to perform a concert over there. “The get-together was amazing... we shared old memories again. That kind of feeling is priceless,” said the playback singer, who sang the songs for the movie Rockstar.

The song Aisee Waisee Dosti Nahin is a part of the short film #No1 Yaari directed by Anupam Mishra and aims to capture the soul and essence of friendship. Chauhan said that the song is “dedicated to friendship where agenda, profit or fame do not play any role.”

“It’s about a relationship, which we form over a time period starting from our childhood. For me, it is about people who I met during my journey towards success,” he said.

The song, which has been composed by Rajeev Bhallam, is like trip down memory lane for Chauhan making him relive all those memories while he is singing the song.

“The makers have shot the music video for the song in Himachal, which brought back all the memories of the time gone by. I was watching the video while singing and felt nostalgic,” he said.

Mohit, who is now trying to manage his work as a playback singer and musician, says, “I am singing songs for films and am also working on my songs as well. But I am not sure that whether I will release them as a part of my second solo album or as singles,” he told IANS.

Mohit, who has given several soul stirring songs such as Tum Se Hi and Sadda Haq, is looking to gather inspiration from life and everything around him for new songs.
