LAHORE:
The Lahore Vision 2035 document was launched on Saturday, envisioning sustainable development for the city that is people-centric and environment-friendly.
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Center for Public Policy and Governance (CPPG) at Forman Christian College (FCC), and the Urban Unit of the Punjab government collaborated in holding the seminars to develop the document, a statement issued by the USAID said.
Representatives of USAID Pakistan, key stakeholders from the government, industry leaders, and representatives from corporate, non-profit and academic institutions attended the event.
Speakers at the event included Dr Saeed Shafqat, the CPPG director; Dr Nasir Javed, the Urban Unit chief executive officer; Suleman Ghani, the USAID Firms Project senior policy adviser; and Daud Muhammad Bareach, the local government and community development department secretary.
The Lahore Vision 2035 seminars gave stakeholders the opportunity to share their vision for Lahore in the coming decades. They presented position papers on five sectors in Lahore: transport planning, water supply, sewage and solid waste management, governance and urban management, real estate markets, and trade friendliness in Lahore.
The initiative is expected to provide help to the provincial government and the city district government in setting development priorities and integrating various development schemes.
