ISLAMABAD: Culture makes it easier for people to understand one another in a better way thus enabling them to overcome linguistic barriers, said Information Minister Senator Pervaiz Rashid while addressing the participants of a conference in The Netherlands.

According to a statement issued on Monday, Rashid was speaking at the first plenary session of 6th Asia-Europe (ASEM) Culture Ministers Conference. “Culture diversity is a manifestation of the world civilisation. It is a source of innovation, inspiration and progress for human society,” said the federal minister.

Highlighting the importance of creation, production and commercialisation of creative content, the federal minister said knowledge, understanding and exploitation of creative industries not only allowed the efficient use of cultural assets but would also generate opportunities. It may further create potential for human resource development, which in turn will enhance productivity, the minister emphasised.

“Pakistan is the country possessing rich cultural heritage and diversity, particularly in the field of arts and craft. The difference in culture and traditions of various regions has resulted in a wide range of arts and crafts that reflect the indigenous skills and cultural environment,” he maintained.

Rashid reportedly said the Pakistan government is well aware of the enormous potential of creative industry, its economic vitality and cultural projection as it acts as a vehicle for culture identity. He told the gathering that efforts have been made to promote women entrepreneurship, cluster formation and developing close linkage between industry and academia.

He also hoped that the delegates at the conference will explore the economic development in the field of creative industry, adding that, such fruitful interactions will also foster understanding and friendship among participating countries.
