Capacity building: Mayo Hospital ward renovated

LAHORE:

Mayo Hospital’s East Medical Ward has been renovated by Bilqees Sarwar Foundation. The foundation has spent millions of rupees on a 10-bed ICU, new beds, installation of a centrally air-conditioned system and an automatic oxygen-supply system at the ward.

A ceremony in this regard was held at the Mayo Hospital auditorium on Saturday. Adviser on Health Khawaja Salman Rafique, King Edward Medical University (KEMU) Vice Chancellor Prof Faisal Masood and retired teachers Prof Khawaja Sadiq Hussain (who graduated from KEMU in 1942), Prof Akhtar Khan, Prof Mehmood Ali Malik, Prof Zafarullah Khan, Prof Asad Aslam Khan, Prof Irshad Hussain Qureshi, Bilqees Sarwar Foundation’s patron-in-chief Bilqees Sarwar also attended the event. The former medical teachers recounted their memories at the KEMU.

Masood said that knowledge was insufficient without wisdom. “Teachers in our time tried to inspire their students and to strengthen their sense of judgment,” Masood said.

Hussain said that doctors should interact with patients according to their mental-level. “A doctor must always listen to his patients patiently,” he said.

Khawaja Salman Rafique praised the services of the Bilqees Sarwar Foundation. “The philanthropist family is spending millions of rupees on helping people. Earlier, they had renovated the Neurology Department of Mayo Hospital and also provided thousands of mosquito nets to the flood-affected,” he said.

Farhan Sarwar, a representative of Bilqees Sarwar Foundation, said that they were always ready to help the needy. “The Bilqees Sarwar Foundation will fund the establishment of a dialysis unit at Mayo Hospital that will have 10 dialysis machines,” he said.
