DERA GHAZI KHAN:

A proclaimed offender was killed in what police called an encounter early on Wednesday.

Police said Muhammad Aslam, wanted in several murder and robbery cases, had died after being hit by bullets fired by his accomplices during an encounter with police on Sonahra bridge near Taunsa Sharif.

“We received information that Aslam was travelling to Taunsa Sharif with three of his accomplices. Police set up a picket at the Sonahra bridge. At 6am, the policemen spotted a car coming towards them. They signalled the driver to stop. Those in the car fired shots at the police and fled towards Basti Damrah. The policemen followed them in their vehicle. The shootout between the police and the gunmen continued for sometime. After a while the criminals abandoned the car and fled. When the police team examined the car, they found Aslam’s body,” the police said.

They said that they had seized an AK-47 rifle and ammunition from the car. Aslam was wanted in eight murder and five robbery cases to Kot Sultan and Dera Ghazi Khan police.
