SUKKUR:

Khairpur police on Saturday morning booked 45 Shahani tribesmen for their alleged involvement in attacking Haji Abdullah Sahito village in the Ranipur police limits on Friday night.

Besides torching three houses, two motorcycles and a tractor, the armed attackers kidnapped five persons, including two women, and injured five others. Dozens of armed Shahani tribesmen raided the village, opening indiscriminate fire and reducing three houses to ashes. They then kidnapped Ayaz Ahmed Sahito, Anees Ahmed Sahito, Samreen Sahito, Ghulam Ali Sahito and Sitara Khatoon Sahito. The armed men resorted to aerial firing for half an hour.

Hundreds of Sahito tribesmen later gathered on the National Highway to protest the police's failure to help them. Shahani tribesmen again attacked the protesters but the police arrived and brought the situation under control.

Khairpur SSP and Gambat DSP reached the scene with a heavy police contingent to negotiate with the protesters and assure them of early justice. The blockade came to an end when the Sahito tribesmen received these assurances. The police also claimed to have recovered the kidnapped villagers from Fateh Ali Shahani village late on Friday night.

On Saturday, Ranipur police booked 45 Shahani tribesmen allegedly involved in the attack on the village. However, no arrests had been made by the time this report was filed.

According to the Ranipur police, two girls belonging to the Shahani tribe went missing a week ago and their parents accused Irshad Ahmed Sahito of kidnapping them, sparking tensions between the two tribes.
