Stuck in D-Chowk: Imran renews claims about Nawaz-Zardari pact

Says the chants of ‘Go Imran, go’ confirm that PML-N is afraid of him

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan accused Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and former president Asif Ali Zardari of teaming up to protect their mutual interests but pledged that their time was over now.

Addressing protesters at Islamabad’s D Chowk, the PTI chairman said that heads of the two political parties, Prime Minister Sharif and former president Zardari, had forged an alliance to safeguard their interests and conceal their corruption.

“This is not democracy but the rule of land mafia. I will file cases against them, expose their alliance and hold them accountable,” said Imran.

Commenting over Zardari’s criticism against him, Imran said “I am happy at what Zardari said. There might have been some tensions in my party had Zardari said some good words about me.”

Talking about the Multan incident where Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz workers greeted the PTI chief with “Go Imran, go” slogans, Imran said: “Today I am confident that Nawaz Sharif is afraid of me”.

“This is nothing but fear that they have chanted this slogan despite the fact that I am not the prime minister. Where should I go?” Imran asked jokingly.

The cricketer-turned politician was hopeful that the Multan’s gathering — which will be held in the same stadium where Imran took 5-wickets in a Test against West Indies some three decades ago — will be historic and break all previous records.

“I am hopeful because of you [the people] and no one can defeat us,” Imran said. Whether it is cricket or any other field ‘you do not win but the other loses, because of his mistakes and the champion exploits those,’ he added.

Imran once again censured the government for torture over what he termed on peaceful protesters on August 31, when they marched towards PM House from the D-Chowk. He referred to a report of PIMS hospital and said that “today I have learnt that when government opened fire on August 31, 24 seriously injured were picked by police and no one knows about their whereabouts till date”.

“We have filed a case against PM Nawaz and Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and we will ask them about those 24 people,” he added. Imran referred to demonstrations in the west and said that no one dares to think of firing at peaceful protesters.
