Relatives protest against murder of five

Police register case against 6 suspects.

FAISALABAD: Dozens of residents of Bhero village staged a protest demonstration against police on Sunday for not arresting the murderers of five people gunned down on Saturday.

The demonstrators gathered on the Jhang-Sargodha Road and blocked it for traffic. Talking to reporters, Anwar Hasnain, one of the protesters, said five people of their village were murdered while returning from a court hearing on Saturday. “Police are reluctant to register a case against the killers,” he said. Faisalabad Regional Police Officer (RPO) Muhammad Ehsan Taufail took notice of the murders after the demonstration and directed the Chiniot district police officer (DPO) to arrest the culprits within 24 hours. Chiniot DPO Abdul Qadir Qamar said he had constituted a three-member team to arrest the suspects. Muhammadwala SHO Rai Arshad Kharal said that police had registered a case against six nominated and three unidentified accused. “Amir Umar, Amjad Hayat, Hakim, Abdul Jabbar, Ahmad and Zulfiqar have been charged under the Pakistan Penal Code and the Anti-Terrorism Act,” he said.
