Police raid: Extortionist arrested at refugee camp

Investigation began after multiple complaints from residents of the city and its surrounding areas

HANGU: Two alleged extortionists were arrested by the police in a raid on an Afghan refugee camp in Hangu on Wednesday. In a press conference, Hangu DPO Anwar Nazir Kundi said after receiving multiple complaints from residents of the city and its surrounding areas, the police began an investigation. Based on information they gathered, the police raided a house in Mian Khel Afghan refugee camp in Lakhti Bhanda and arrested two people. The men confessed that they had been involved in threatening traders, merchants and businessmen for ransom and extortion. The DPO identified the arrested men as Nawab Khan and Gul Khan. An AK-47, a rifle, 100 cartridges along with five SIMs were seized from them. A case was filed against the Afghan nationals and further investigation is under way.
