The Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association (PBSA) had received an invitation from the Qatar Billiards and Snooker Federation (QBSF), calling on Pakistan to send two of its players.
The event holds a total prize money of $13,000; the winner will bag $6,000 and the runner-up will pocket $4,000.
Players who finish third and fourth will be handed $2,000 each, whereas those claiming spots from fifth to eighth will receive $1,000 apiece.
The cueists will depart for Qatar on October 14 to practice at the QBSF Academy prior to the championship.
PBSA President Alamgir Sheikh said that former IBSF World Champion Muhammad Asif was overlooked due to his poor performances at the international level in the last 15 months.
“Asif was not selected as has been struggling to do well in national and international tournaments,” Sheikh told The Express Tribune.
“He needs to work hard and start performing well, otherwise he’ll face a lot of problems. Asif had asked the PBSA to help him consult with an eye specialist and we facilitated him. Hopefully he’ll become accustomed to playing with glasses soon.”
Sheikh added that Hamza was included because of his recent show in the Asian 6-Red Championship, where he made it to the semi-finals.
