(LIVE) Islamabad protests: Imran asks Nawaz, Zardari to declare their actual assets

Court directs children should immediately be removed from sit-ins

Our Correspondents/web Desk September 21, 2014

ISLAMABAD/ LAHORE/ KARACHI: The protests by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) and the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) workers has entered its sixth week with an end to the impasse no where in sight.

The government has been reassured by the Parliament as a resolution backing democracy and the incumbents was unanimously approved, as focus inevitably moves more towards the raging floods elsewhere in the country.

On the other hand, the Opposition's Political Jirga - which had been touted as the last hope of an amicable resolution to the impasse - has decided to only meet with heads of the protesting parties to carry forward negotiations after last weeks's abortive attempts.

For their part, both Imran Khan and Dr Tahirul Qadri remain rooted their demands. Having termed Nawaz Sharif as untrustworthy while and 'exposing' his 'corruption' before thousands every evening, PTI and PAT are now gearing up to announce their next course of action.

As part of their protest against the alleged rustication of a student who chanted 'Go Nawaz Go' during a federal minister' speech, hackers defaced a web page of Preston University’s official website.

The webpage carried a message from the hackers Mujahid Sheroze and Muhammad Bilal, where they claimed that they had hacked the page over the expulsion of a student.

It had been reported that a student who shouted 'Go Nawaz Go' during minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal's speech had been expelled.

The hackers warned that they will leak personal information Dr Abul Basit if the expelled student is not restored.

However, the university has refuted allegations that it had expelled the student. In a statement on the un-defaced main page of the site, the university say the student in question had not been expelled and was still attending classes.

Imran Khan while addressing 'Azadi' sit-in asks Nawaz Sharif, Asif Zardari to declare their actual assets.

"Not only do Nawaz and Zardari hide their assets, the money they make from corruption is siphoned out of Pakistan."

He urges his supporters to email the ECP asking them to make public details of assets of parliamentarians on its website.

Responding to a question on whether Imran will bring Dr Afia Siddiqi back to Pakistan once he comes in to power, the PTI chief shied away from a direct answer. Instead, Imran launched into a tirade against previous regimes, asking what kind of government hands over a woman and her small children to another country. Without takeing the name of former President Pervaiz Musharraf, under whose regime Afia was handed over to the US, Imran said when PTI comes into power, they will hold to account all those responsible for handing Afia over to the US.

In light of Islamabad deputy commissioner’s statement that he did not give PTI permission to stage a sit-in in front of Parliament House, Justice Minallah says the sit-in appears to be “illegal.”

“If proven that the sit-in is legal, the government will bear the expenses otherwise, PTI will.”

Further, the justice adds that children should immediately be removed from the sit-ins to avoid any harm to them.

Urging the PTI to seek Parliament for political questions, the justice says they will only hear questions pertaining to the law.

“The difference between Nawaz and me is that I built myself, I was not brought up by General Ziaul Haq,” says the PTI chief as he refutes claims that he has been staging a sit-in on ‘someone’s’ directions.

Imran claims they have established a world record by staging a sit-in for 45 consecutive days.

“Even the Election Commission of Pakistan has admitted that ballot papers were published unlawfully at the last minute.”

Imran demands that the ECP should immediately publish form XIV on its website. “If the ECP does not publish form XIV, it will mean that ECP too was involved in the 'match fixing' of the elections.”

“The ECP has conceded that returning officers were not under its control,” he adds.

"On Thurdsay I will go to Mianwali and after that I will go to Multan."

@Dr Javaid: But none of your education is in the social sciences and you are as naive about social sciences as my son who happens to be a US educated physician. You are too rigid in your support of IK and cannot see his faults. I can see all the faults of the present government but someone better and honest than IK should replace NS. Try to be objective, if you can!!! As someone who has taught at US and more at Pak universities for over twenty years, I know the opinion of the youngsters at Pak universities, a number of them are just as gullible and misguided.
