LAHORE:

Capital City Police Officer Capt (r) Muhammad Amin Wains said they had recently adopted a comprehensive crime-fighting policy to curb street crime. Beat in-charges and constables would play a key role in this regard.

He said like SHOs, beat in-charges would be held accountable for crime in their beats. They will set up pickets and patrol their areas on the pattern of Mujahid and Tiger Squads.

The CCPO was addressing a meeting of the Model Town Society and police officers of Model Town division on Thursday. Operations DIG Haider Ashraf, Model Town SP Baqar Raza, Security SP Capt (r) Malik Liaquat, SHOs and the Model Town Society president were present.

The CCPO said citizens must cooperate with the police to curb crime in their areas. He said they had constituted safety committees at police stations and notable residents of areas had been contacted to coordinate with the police. He said police and private security guards in the Model town Society would patrol the area together.

Model Town Society President Saifur Rehman appreciated the police-public partnership policy and expressed the hope that it would yield positive results. He presented 15 motorcycles to police on behalf of the Model Town Society.
