KARACHI: A Pakistani migrant worker detained in Libya for the past two years died on Saturday, officials confirmed to The Express Tribune.

Adil Hussain, a resident of Khushab in Punjab, was imprisoned in a Tripoli jail over a case trafficking. According to human rights activist Ansar Burney, Adil had paid money to a local agent to travel illegally to Europe but was caught by the Libyan authorities and kept in jail for last two years.

Ambassador-designate to Libya Lieutenant-General (Retd) Javed Zia while confirming the death of the prisoner in Libya told The Express Tribune that they were trying their best to recover his body from the Libyan authorities.

“Once the body is received from the Libyans, the embassy will make all out efforts to immediately send it back to Pakistan, he said, adding Hussain was suffering from kidney problem and also suffered paralysis stroke.

Zia said that the embassy had been successful in getting 280 detainees released from Libyan detention centres. A total of 5,210 Pakistanis had been evacuated from the civil war-torn Libya, with 2,510 sent home through PIA and special chartered flights.
