Darahma Station House Officer Ammar Yasir said 40-year-old Khursheed Bibi was brought to the trauma centre of Dera Ghazi Khan Hospital with 62 per cent burns.
He said she told doctors that she was married to 50-year-old Munir Ahmad. She said theirs was his second marriage. She said he had first married his brother’s widow. She said he met her a year ago and married her six months ago. She said he had promised to bring her to his house a few months after the Nikah.
She said after a lapse of six months, she approached him at his house and asked him to take her in. She said he had promised to give her money every month but had stopped sending funds. She said when she asked him to take her in or provide for her, he got angry.
Yasir said she quarrelled with Khurhseed Begum, Ahmad’s first wife, who was also present.
He said Ahmad and Amna attacked her. He said they beat her, then doused her in petrol and set her on fire. He said Bibi died a few hours after she was brought to the hospital.
The SHO said District Police Officer Ghulam Mubashar Maikan took notice of the incident and formed a team comprising CID officers Nazim Ali Gormani and Muhammad Akram Khan Gorchani to investigate the matter.
He said Darahma police had registered a case Ahmad and Begum. He said Ahmad had been arrested while raids were being conducted to arrest Begum. This is the second burn death in two weeks in Dera Ghazi. Last week, a woman died two weeks after she set herself on fire in protest against police negligence after her alleged rapists were set free.
