KARACHI: Former provincial minister Owais Muzaffar, who is also a top leader of Pakistan Peoples Party, reached Thatta on Sunday to determine whether the level of flood preparedness in the province was satisfactory or not.

Owais Muzaffar was briefed about the emergency plans to meet the flood situation in Thatta district — which is at the tail end of the River Indus. Deputy commissioner Thatta informed him about flood relief and rescue operation plans that have been devised well in advance to meet any eventuality.

“In case of any crisis,” said Owais Muzaffar, “the people should be provided relief on an emergency basis.”

He directed the health department, irrigation department, the district administration and all other government departments to coordinate their efforts and plans.

The senior PPP leader said that he would remain in contact with the authorities in the delta district that is prone to flooding and sea incursion.

Owais Muzaffar later met the people of the area and discussed their issues and informed them about on-going development projects of the Sindh government.

He said that on the directives of PPP leadership, the Sindh government has expedited the pace of work on development projects. He also directed the relevant officers to take interest in resolving the issues of the people.
