KARACHI:
The Sindh Cabinet decided on Wednesday to demolish illegal water hydrants and directed the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) to take action against tanker mafia with the support of the police and Rangers.
The meeting was attended by ministers and advisors belonging to ruling Pakistan Peoples Party, and chaired by Chief Minister (CM) Qaim Ali Shah at the CM House. It was discussed how the nexus of hydrants and tankers mafia was causing water crisis in Karachi.
"Strict action must be taken against illegal hydrants through a proper operation," said a source, quoting the chief minister.
The meeting also decided to fix the support prices of cotton and paddy crop. The cabinet meeting decided to form a committee headed by agriculture minister Ali Nawaz Khan Maher, including two Cabinet members as well as representatives from the Sindh Chamber of Agriculture, Sindh Abadgar Board and other stake holders from public and private sectors.
"We will find out the ways and means to give them support prices or a mechanism that secured their interest of investment," said Shah.
The Cabinet members also reviewed the drought situation in Tharparkar and expressed satisfaction over the free distribution of wheat to the affected people.
