Police violence: Lawyers observe strike

The courts fixed new dates for hearings.

FAISALABAD: Lawyers on Monday observed a strike in protest against police action on media workers in Islamabad.

The strike was observed in Faisalabad, Chiniot, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Jaranwala, Samundri, Tandlianwala, Lalian, Bhowana, Gojra, Kamalia, Ahmed Pur Sial and Shorkot on the call of Pakistan Bar Council and Punjab Bar Council.

Lawyers boycotted courts completely and did not appear for case hearings.

The courts fixed new dates for hearings.

The lawyers also staged protest rallies and chanted slogans against police action on protestors in Islamabad. They said everyone had a right to protest for their legitimate demands and that the police should not have resorted to violence.

Lawyers of Jaranwala and Tandlianwala tehsil bar association condemned allegations levelled by Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan against Lahore High Court Bar President Shafqat Mehmood Chohan.

They condemned police brutality on journalists who were on official duty during the protests.

Sammundri Bar Association also put ban on the entry of PTI chief within the TBA premises and declared Imran Khan a disliked person.
