Encounters: Two looters, a gangster arrested

Routine police patrol tried to intercept them, but suspects resorted to indiscriminate fire in an attempt to escape

Two suspects allegedly involved in street crime were arrested after an exchange of fire with the police on Sunday.


The encounter occurred when the suspects, riding a motorcycle, were looting valuables from passers-by in Soldier Bazaar. A routine police patrol tried to intercept them, but the suspects resorted to indiscriminate fire in an attempt to escape.

The police fired back in retaliation, as a result of which the suspects, identified as Umair Khan and Arif Rasheed, were injured and arrested. Police officials claim to have recovered weapons, snatched cellphones and a motorcycle from their possession. In a separate encounter, an alleged member of the Lyari gang war was arrested after an encounter with the police within the limits of Baghdadi police station in Lyari. Police officials said that the accused, identified as Shahzad aka Bhari, was involved in various cases of crime.
