HYDERABAD:

Two police constables were shot dead in a targeted attack in Hussainabad on Saturday night. One of the constables, Muhammad Ashraf, was shot in the head and died on the spot, while 45-year-old Muhammad Ramzan Solangi, succumbed to his injuries during treatment at the Civil Hospital on Sunday morning.

According to City and Latifabad SP Umer Tufail, four armed assailants riding two motorcycles attacked the two policemen. They were checking vehicles near the Public School on Auto Bahn road when they were attacked.

He told The Express Tribune that a 9mm pistol was used by the assailants.

As many as 17 police personnel have been killed in Hyderabad since November, 2013. Hyderabad DIG Dr Sanaullah Abbasi was of the belief that the same group was involved in most of the killings. The investigations, however, have not made enough headway, as the police have yet to charge any suspect for these murders.

The martyred constable, Ashraf, hailed from Panj Mori village in Saeedabad tehsil, Matiari district. Solangi belonged to the rural town of Odero Lal in Sanghar district. Both of them were posted to Hussainabad police station, which was also their temporary abode, according to SHO Kareem Abbasi.

Ashraf's body was sent to his village after his Namaz-e-Janaza was offered at the police headquarters. The incident's FIR was not registered till the filing of this story.
