Agricultural growth: ‘Irrigation infrastructure being improved’

The minister said lining of canals in Faisalabad Canal Zone had been completed, preventing the loss of water.

Irrigation Minister Mian Yawar Zaman said on Friday irrigation infrastructure was being revamped along modern lines.


He told a delegation of farmers the Irrigation Department had been working to meet water needs of the farming community.

He said renovation of canals was underway in Okara, Sahiwal and Khanewal under the Lower Bari Doaab Canal Improvement Project. Water availability will be improved with the completion of the project.

The minister said lining of canals in Faisalabad Canal Zone had been completed, preventing the loss of water.

He said Japanese experts had trained Pakistani farmers in sprinkle irrigation, drip irrigation and tunnel farming.

“The Irrigation Department has overcome water theft to a great extent. I am monitoring efforts of district administrations, police and Irrigation Department in this regard,” Zaman said.
