KARACHI:

Commissioner Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui called an emergency meeting on Wednesday for the cleaning of drainage nullahs in the city. The meeting was held with all the district municipal commissioners and officials of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC).

“For the immediate relief of citizens during the monsoon season, all district municipal corporations have been directed to immediately lift garbage that is being dump around every corner of the city,” the commissioner was told in the meeting. The ‘channelising’ of nullahs has also kicked off, Siddiqui was told.

Talking to The Express Tribune, Siddiqui said that encroachments on and around nullahs are a serious menace to the city. “We are planning to destroy all illegal housing units that were earlier leased by the Sindh Katchi Abadi Ministry and the KMC itself,” he assured.
